Writing
Academic Writing introduces students to the tools, techniques, and skills that are required when writing in English for academic purposes. The module has the goal of enabling students to produce well-written term papers, and it addresses everything from general organizational concepts in academic writing such as thesis statements and topic sentences down to the more specific questions of how plagiarism can be avoided and how English texts should be punctuated. Throughout the semester students work on a short term paper where they have the opportunity to demonstrate their mastery of the various elements of academic writing that they have encountered. In addition, this module places a focus on the conscious and purposeful expansion of student vocabulary both in terms of collocations and words commonly used in academic contexts.
